A message from Pastor Daniel | Services and events canceled

Dear Church Family,
Saturday, March 14, Session voted unanimously to suspend worship services for the next few weeks out of an abundance of caution for the Coronavirus. Pastor Daniel Hagmaier will preach every week via video and will email the sermon along with the Call to Worship and Prayer so you can follow along at home. We are on hold for the Pastor Nominating Committee and the Confirmation Class and a Baptism for Easter. Hopefully, we can be back and worshiping by Easter!
The Session encourages us all to keep our pledges up to date during this time as well. You can mail it into the church office at Peace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2610 Flagler Avenue, Key West, Florida 33040. You can also have your bank send an automatic payment or you can send money via PayPal on our Church website.
Please keep our community, the United States and the world in your prayers during this time. Please feel free to call me at 310-745-7751 or email or text me as well. We care deeply about each one of you and want you to be safe and healthy!
Pastor Daniel

We are reflective of our community’s diversity and inclusive, One Human Family culture. We know that challenges  can be daunting in what is a transient tourist community unlikely to be filled with those actively seeking a permanent church home — and we actively rise to them with collaborative solutions.

Our Mission & Vision

Our mission ensures strong care for current members and outreach to local families,  parents and children, the gay and lesbian communities and military singles and families.

“In response to the love of God in our lives, and desiring to share the Light of Christ, we covenant together to relate with one another in Christ-like ways, to embrace the diversity God has gathered in this place, to grow and nurture our understanding of our personal mission, to serve Jesus Christ in the community at large and to worship God in our daily lives.”

What makes Key West’s Church of the Rock the right fit for you?

We are closer to Havana than Miami. We are connected to the mainland by 150 miles of electric cords and water lines. Key West is not “the Keys,” nor are we Florida. We certainly are not the mainland. We live the Key West motto: One Human Family.

We are not Disney World’s Key West. We are a city and a congregation with people who work for a living, take their kids to school, argue politics, complain about taxes and too many cars and not enough parking. We scramble to pay the rent and work two jobs and serve on countless volunteer boards.

We worship. We pray. We learn. AND WE WORK. One of the endearing qualities of Peace Covenant is the esprit de corps. We each have special skills and talents that serve the needs of our physical plant and feed our spirits. We work together which makes for great fellowship and teaching moments, especially when someone hits their thumb with a hammer.

It’s a shorts-and-flip-flops congregation if that works for you. We’re a congregation works and worships at your side. Where we welcome you as you are and stand with you as you become all you can be. Where being part of this fellowship means doing God’s work in the most beautiful place on earth.

Dear Church Family and Friends,

God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1

We all go through times of trial, detours, flat tires and challenges but it is so good to know that God is our refuge, a place where we can find peace and comfort. God is also our strength to give us the power to move forward when we can't put one foot in front of the other. I also like the words, a very present help. It means in the Hebrew to having 'help at hand.' It is telling us that our help isn't 10 minutes away or 100 miles away, it is right there at hand ready when we need to turn to God. What a blessing to have God ever ready for us!

I want to wish everyone a Happy July 4th as we celebrate our Independence Day here in America. It will feel very strange to us as the beaches and state parks here are closed and there will be few signs of fireworks in the State of Florida. Even though we have many issues confronting us here in the United States, I am proud to be an American and I celebrate our history and our independence on July 4.

This Sunday I will be preaching on a parable from Jesus about a man who owed a king a ton of money. This sermon is all about forgiveness which is a subject everyone struggles with at times in their lives. But this is what truly separates Christians from many other people and religions. Forgiveness is at the heart of Christianity and Jesus is going to teach us a very important lesson in this parable. Remember, parables are earthly lessons with heavenly meanings. We will also be taking communion together as well. John Penkoske is in Wisconsin so I will be playing a couple of hymns relating to America like O Beautiful for Spacious Skies and My Country Tis of Thee.

We had a nice response in regards to a Zoom Fellowship Meeting with you. This is a chance to meet our newest family, the Hamptons and also visit with faithful members around the country who watch us every single week like Corky and Ann Diefendorf in Shelter Island, New York.
