Pastor’s weekly newsletter | 12-20-19
Good morning everyone,
I know you will join with me in expressing our sympathy and prayers to the Mary Ciesinski family. Mary passed into eternity on December 14. Mary served Peace Covenant as the church secretary for 20 years from the late 70’s to 2000. Peace Covenant is so blessed to have a wonderful woman like Mary be a significant part of our church. Her memorial service will be held here at Peace Covenant on March 7 at 2 p.m. Mary requested that any memorial gifts be made out to our church. If you would like to contact her daughter, Fern, here is her email: FKhatzen@gmail.com.
Due to the inclement weather today, the Homeless Memorial Service will be held at our church at 3 p.m. and I will be participating in the service.
This Sunday is the 4th Advent Sunday and we welcome the Catena Family to light the candles. The sermon is a doozy! Mary receives word from an angel that she will give birth and she responds by saying,”How can this be since I am a virgin.” The sermon title is Impossible and we all face seemingly impossible situations in our lives. How do we get through them? How do we handle them? How did Mary handle this information?
During Sunday School, we head back to Genesis 18 where God wants to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. God had told Abraham not to bring any other family members with him went he went to the Promised Land but his nephew Lot wanted to go with him. Abraham then has to bargain with God to save his nephew and his family. Have you ever bargained with God? Abraham did and apparently, God listened.
This Tuesday will be our wonderful Christmas Eve Candlelight Service and the special music begins at 6:30 p.m. with the service of Lessons and Carols starting at 7 p.m. Please take a moment to invite a friend to join us for this service. The music will be incredible!
The last date for checks to be counted for 2019 is December 31. Please make sure you get them to Mary by then.
A big thank you to all of you who purchased poinsettias in honor of or in memory of someone. Please plan on taking one or more home after the service on Christmas Eve. Also, on behalf of FKOC and Niels Hubbell, thank you to everyone who purchased a gift for a needy family.
A congregational meeting has been approved by our Session for January 12 at the end of the service to approve two new Elders to serve our church.
This is the final email until 2020 so on behalf of Peace Covenant Presbyterian Church, I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Yours In Christ,
Pastor Daniel
