Good morning Peace Covenant Sports Fans,
It is Super Bowl Sunday Weekend and we are excited to have a fabulous Sunday here at our church. We invite everyone to wear their favorite jersey to church for our Tailgate Party! Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided and we invite you bring a side dish to share and/or a finger food dessert. Also, don’t forget to bring a dry goods donation to feed those in need here in Key West.
Reverend Amy Howe will once again teach Sunday School while I preach at Venture Out before returning here for the 11 a.m. service. This Sunday they will meet in my office. Amy will be leading a lesson on justice taking a look at the Book of Jonah. Jonah becomes angry over God’s real justice toward the Ninevites. What does the conversation between God and Jonah tell us about God’s justice? How does God’s justice differ from our common understanding of justice? Sunday School begins at 10 a.m.
Next Sunday, February 9 we will hold our Scottish Celebration as we hold a Kirkin O’ The Tartan to remember our Presbyterian roots being formed in Scotland by John Knox some 500 years ago! We invite everyone to wear plaid that day. We will have special music by two bagpipers before, during and after the service. Please take the time to invite a friend to see a minister in a skirt!
On Sunday, February 16 after worship, we will have a Congregational Meeting to elect a new Nominating Committee. Session has elected two as required by our bylaws, Niels Hubbell and Beverly Morris. We will open the nominations to the floor seeking three at large members from the congregation at that meeting. Once we have a new Nominating Committee in place, they will then bring a slate to form a Pastor Nominating Committee. Last Sunday, two representatives from Presbytery came to our Session meeting to map out the process for our church. Once the PNC is in place, they will have two options before them. They can decide whether the Transitional Pastor (Daniel) is the only candidate for a permanent call or one of many candidates, which would result in a nationwide search.
By the way, the Per Capita that each member is asked to pay this year is $36, which goes to help fund Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly.
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the Super Bowl,
Pastor Daniel
