Good morning Peace Covenant Family,

In the mid-17th century, Oliver Cromwell sent his secretary to the continent on some important, state business. One night during his travels he found he was unable to sleep. According to an old custom a servant slept in his room and that evening the servant was sleeping soundly on the floor beside him.

In the middle of the night the secretary woke the man up to tell the servant that he could not rest because “I am so afraid something will go wrong with the diplomatic mission,” “Master,” said the valet, “may I ask a question or two?”

“Of course.” “Did God rule the world before we were born?” “Most assuredly He did.” “And will He rule it after we are dead?” “Certainly He will.” “Then, master, why not let God rule the present, too?” The servant’s reply stirred the secretary’s faith and he found a deep sense of peace, and in a few minutes both he and the servant were sound asleep.

Friends, do you worry about the present? Do you find yourself in doubt and frustration over things you cannot control? Well, join the crowd! We all face those moments when we allow our mind to control our behavior and deprive us of joy and peace.

Listen to Paul’s words in Philippians. He writes, “Do not worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.” The God who created the stars, moon and universe holds us all in the palm of His hand.

Each night before you go to bed why not say a prayer and tell God everything that is on your heart. Tell God your fears, your dreams and your hopes. Let God worry about the present so that you can simply be the person God calls you to be during the day.

I hope you have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day weekend. On Sunday, we will honor our veterans and active military personnel in the service as well as take a moment to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. We will observe Memorial Day by closing our office on Monday.

Last week I had a wonderful conversation with former pastor Randy Smith who reads our weekly newsletter, listens to our sermons and prays for us every Friday. Randy is going to officially retire this year. He wanted to say hello to all of you!

This Sunday we will take on the second part of the words of Jesus when he said, “You are the light of the world.” What does it mean to be a light in the world? How do we turn on the light? How can we as Christians shine our light to a world in need? Come join us in person or in spirit via our video sermon.

This Sunday will also be our last Sunday School lesson until October. Next week our service time will move to 10 a.m.
