Susan Shetzer got our Vacation Bible School advertising off to a wonderful start with her giant, hand-painted “Son Treasure Island” banner. Words can’t effectively describe its visually enticing magnetism… Thank you Susan for one of many great gifts you gave to VBS this year!
Elder Lori Menendez headed up this spectacular VBS in June along with her husband, Miguel, who lead the ever-popular games.
There was also the very dedicated volunteer staff consisting of Ilona Geary, our animated MC, and her amazing daughters Lorey (snacks), Sarah (games) and Hannah (stories); the PCPC teachers Katie Catena, Jennifer Phillips and Marika Smith who kept every day exciting with those creative crafts and lesson-based snacks which the children made themselves and thoroughly enjoyed; the daily story-telling of Mary Jo Banks, and Dr. Larry and Karen Schenk who volunteered again this year to lead the Pre-School aged children in their separate curriculum and activies designed especially for them. Special thanks to everyone mentioned and also to Geraldine Brummund, Caileigh Lutz and Miguel Jr. and Elizabeth Menendez.
Elder Lori had reached out to the congregation asking for island-themed props to borrow which not only reduced costs greatly but made the surroundings even more meaningful, especially at the closing ceremonies on Sunday for all to enjoy. More than two dozen children (pre-K to 5th grade) came each day to engage in all the fun and meaningful music, stories, games, friendship, and more as they learned how:
GOD IS LOVE AND LOVE IS PATIENT AND LOVE IS KIND (I Corinthians 13:4).
Punch and Cookies were provided by the Member Care Committee after the VBS closing ceremonies and Sunday Worship.
Thanks to everyone who participated! The Son Teasure Island Theme is planned to continue again in 2015!!
